WHo is Maria Ibrahim?
I’m a Ph.D.-trained biomedical scientist specializing in cancer biology, metabolism, and pharmacology, with a passion for translating complex science into impactful solutions for human health and education. My research at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey focuses on cancer metabolism, cachexia, and autophagy—work that has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications and a New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research Fellowship.
Beyond the bench, I have built a strong record as a STEM educator and academic leader, designing and implementing evidence-based programs that promote student success and faculty development. At Rutgers University Honors College, I serve as an Intern to the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, where I contribute to curriculum design, program assessment, and leadership development initiatives. I also developed leadership course that integrates self-efficacy, experiential learning, and reflective practice to prepare students for professional and academic growth.
My work in STEM education centers on creating inclusive and engaging learning environments, mentoring undergraduate and graduate researchers, and promoting equity and representation in science. I have led faculty development workshops, supported interdisciplinary teaching collaborations, and guided students through complex scientific concepts while fostering curiosity and critical thinking.
I thrive in collaborative, cross-functional environments—whether in academia, industry, or education—and I’m passionate about leveraging science and pedagogy to improve clinical outcomes, advance therapeutic discovery, and strengthen STEM education through innovation, mentorship, and evidence-based practice.
